NAIDOC Week: Foundation Aboriginal Art Incursion

16 June 2023

As part of our Humanities topic on Celebrations, the Foundation students celebrated the upcoming NAIDOC Week by participating in a hands-on Aboriginal Art experience which was a fun and interactive way to introduce students to Aboriginal art.

As part of this experience, our young students learnt some basic facts about different types of Aboriginal paintings, regional painting styles and symbols: In the absence of written languages, Aboriginal people used paintings to convey knowledge for thousands of years. Art styles vary greatly across Australia.

During the incursion, our students spent most of their time engaging in the activity of making traditional paint (with ochre, clay and charcoal) and decorating wooden boomerangs which they could take home at the end of the day.
