Iqra Classes

Updated January 2018

Learning to read the Quran at Al Siraat College begins from day 1 in Foundation and continues throughout the schooling years right into Year 10. Classes are conducted daily.

The College has developed its own series of 13 levelled booklets (called Ma'alim-us-Siraat) that help to gradually build on the skill of accurate and fluent reading. After students have successfully mastered all 13 levels, they are then moved onto the Naathirah program which takes them through a complete guided reading of the Holy Quran.

Students are placed into smaller similar ability groups where they are explicitly taught by a team of trained specialist Quran staff.

In addition to learning to read in the Quran, students also follow a memorisation curriculum. The memorisation at this level is further supported every morning in Junior School assembly with the joint recitation of the last ten surahs along with the du'a and value of the week.

For students who are particularly gifted in Quran reading from a young age (Foundation to Year 2), they may apply for the specialist Hifz program (memorisation). Enrolment for this program requires an additional assessment and classes begin from Year 3, however the preparation begins as early as the Foundation level. For further information, please refer to the Hifz information page.

The booklets in Ma'alim-us-Siraat can also be downloaded for further practice at home.

To keep parents well informed of their child’s progress in class, we have a Religion webpage in which the Religion staff write up weekly updates. Other useful Quran resources are also available from here. Here is the link:
