AFL Hosts Whittlesea and Darebin Cup 2016

31 July 2016

This term, Girls and Boys from Years 5 & 6 participated in the Whittlesea and Darebin Cup. This Australian Rules footy competition included various state and independent schools from the Whittlesea and Darebin region.

The boys' competition included two teams from Al Siraat, both teams played well throughout the day representing the school in two separate groups. Each group hosted very skilled teams coming from schools such as Epping Views, The Holy Name, St Mary’s and Lalor East Primary. It was very obvious that our young boys have exceptional foot skills, particularly when kicking off the ground. However the fancy soccer skills were no match for the exuberant, flashy and very skillful display from the opposition. Unfortunately, the boys teams did not progress to the next round, however Mustafa Emniyet was awarded a Harmony medal for his excellent conduct, respect and display of school values throughout the event.

The Girls team on the other hand, coached by Ms Layal and Mr Bektash, progressed to the next round winning three of their four games and entertaining the audience. There was no doubt, these young girls were hard at it and worked as a team throughout the competition. Swadiqah Fatimah and Aisha Keown were an driving force out of the centre, so much so that they had a number of fans who applauded and watched from the sidelines.

We congratulate all players involved and we wish the Girls team the best of success in the finals round of competition.
