Careers Conference “Leaders of Tomorrow": Students leading with Purpose

17 September 2025

Our inaugural Careers Conference “Leaders of Tomorrow" stood out as a landmark event, distinguished not only by its inspiring speakers but by the remarkable leadership of the Year 9 LEAP Students who designed and delivered the entire program with the guidance of Head of Learning Enrichment. Their initiative showcased the very qualities-agency, collaboration, and critical thinking-that the conference set out to nurture.

The day opened with powerful address from Bachar Houli OAM celebrated AFL premiership player and founder of the Bachar Houli Foundation. Houli reflected on his journey as the first devout Muslim to play elite Australian football, illustrating how discipline, faith, and service to community can shape both personal success and broader social impact.

The conference’s second keynote speaker, Dr. Simra Azher, who is commencing SET Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Victoria and a PhD candidate in Facial Reconstructive Surgery, offered a compelling account of perseverance through eleven years of medical and dental degrees. Dr Simra is passionate about improving patient outcomes in facial surgery and having a positive impact in people’s lives. She encouraged students to pursue excellence in fields where Muslim women remain under-represented.

Completing the program, Dr. Safinah Hambali, Principal Dentist and practice owner, who has helped contributed to the conference spoke on “The power of a Smile,” highlighting how professional achievement gains its greatest meaning when it uplift others and align with a higher spiritual purpose.

From the thoughtful presentations, workshops to the seamless organisation, the conference affirmed the strength of Students agency and the College’s commitment to developing articulate, capable leaders. Guided by faith and a shared vision of service, Al Siraat’s young organisers demonstrated that the future of the community is in dedicated and capable hands.
