Last Sunday, 14 September 2025, the Whittlesea Interfaith Network (WIN) hosted their annual Carnival of Connections at Epping Memorial Hall. Al Siraat students actively participated, with our Songbirds and Soundwavezz performing on stage, and Secondary students volunteering to help at the event.
The well attended event began with prayers from representatives of various faith traditions. Our very own Ms Aishah Arain represented our Islamic faith, reciting Surah Al-Fatihah in Arabic and English, and sharing its meaning with heartfelt words.
Our Al Siraat Songbirds girls nasheed group and Soundwavezz boys drumming group both performed outside the College for the first time. Coordinated by Ms Aishah Arain, the Songbirds opened with the Australian National Anthem and later sang “We Are Australian”. Our Soundwavezz, under Mr Hafidi, performed lively drumming that had the hall of over 300 guests clapping along.
Ten of our Secondary students from Years 10 to 12 also volunteered as part of the College’s Values in Action (VIA) program. They helped with the setup and clean-up, handed out pre-packed food boxes, and provided face painting for children, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.
Community leaders, including City of Whittlesea Mayor Cr Martin Taylor, Deputy Mayor Cr Daniela Zinni, the Hon. Lily D'Ambrosio (Member for Mill Park), and the Hon. Bronwyn Halfpenny (Member for Thomastown), attended alongside representatives from various faith and cultural groups.
The Carnival of Connections continues to be an important local tradition, promoting understanding and community connection. We thank WIN for hosting and organising the event, and our students and staff in attendance for their involvement in performances and volunteering.
