Al Siraat proudly hosted its annual Interfaith Eid Al Adha Dinner, welcoming distinguished guests from government, the Victorian Multicultural Commission, education, emergency services, faith groups and community organisations for an evening dedicated to strengthening relationships and fostering greater understanding across diverse communities.
Held under the theme "Celebrating Community, Compassion and Connection," the event brought together people from different faiths, cultures and backgrounds to reflect on the values of Eid Al Adha and the importance of unity, service and mutual respect.
The College was honoured to welcome keynote speakers The Hon. Andrew Giles MP, Minister for Skills and Training, The Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio MP, Minister for Climate Action, Energy and Resources, and Councillor Lawrie Cox, Mayor of the City of Whittlesea. Their addresses highlighted the importance of community engagement, educational opportunity, cultural diversity and building a stronger, more cohesive society.
Among the honoured guests were Basem Abdo MP, Bronwyn Halfpenny MP, Kathleen Matthews Ward MP, Iwan Walters MP and Kashif Bouns, Director of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, whose attendance demonstrated strong support for multiculturalism, education and community partnership.
The event also welcomed representatives from Victoria Police, Victoria SES Whittlesea Unit, the Whittlesea Interfaith Network, the Australian Federal Police, community organisations and NGOs, alongside staff and student leaders from Islamic, Independent and Catholic schools, reflecting a shared commitment to understanding, respect and collaboration.
The evening commenced with a beautiful Qur’an recitation by Year 6 Hifz student Muhammad Hadi, followed by a welcome from College Captains Ahmed Ismail and Halimah Sheikh, who reflected on Eid Al Adha as a time of faith, gratitude, generosity and service to others.
College Principal Mr Fazeel Arain welcomed guests and spoke about the importance of strong families, intergenerational connections and a united society. He highlighted the vital role of compassion, service and community involvement in developing young people who make a positive contribution to society, while acknowledging the College’s valued partnerships with government, schools, faith groups and community organisations.
Adding to the celebration were outstanding student performances, including a heartfelt Eid nasheed by Year 6 students and a vibrant Daf performance by the Soundwavezz Group, showcasing the confidence and creativity of Al Siraat students.
Before dinner, College Imam Sheikh Waseem Khan led a special prayer for peace, unity and wellbeing. Guests then enjoyed a shared meal and valuable networking opportunities, strengthening existing relationships and forming new connections.
The College extends its sincere appreciation to its student leaders, performers, staff and guest speakers whose contributions made the evening a success. Their efforts created a welcoming environment where meaningful conversations, new friendships and stronger partnerships could flourish.
As the evening concluded, guests departed with a renewed appreciation for the values at the heart of the event. "Celebrating Community, Compassion and Connection" was reflected throughout the evening through meaningful dialogue, collaborative partnerships and the coming together of people from different faiths and backgrounds. The Interfaith Eid Al Adha Dinner continues to be a valued opportunity to celebrate diversity, strengthen relationships and foster a more connected and harmonious community.
