Al Siraat College is supporting the the Whittlesea Emergency Relief Network (WERN), facilitated by Whittlesea Community Connections (WCC) in their mid-year food drive.
The WERN is a group of local emergency relief service providers working collaboratively to address issues and concerns around disadvantage in the local community. Their services work with vulnerable people in the municipality of Whittlesea who are in a financial crisis and seeking assistance. Across the year, they assist thousands of local families with community lunches, breakfast programs, food hampers, financial assistance, housing support, case management, food and petrol vouchers and material aid assistance.
A 2016 City of Whittlesea survey demonstrated that “a little more than 10 per cent (12.1%) of respondent households reported that they had ran out of food and couldn’t afford to buy more at least once in the last 12 months.” (COW 2016 Annual Household Survey)
