Nature Walks: Exploring Plenty River Gorge

13 October 2025

Looking for a weekend adventure that connects you with nature right on our doorstep? The beautiful Plenty River Gorge, spanning from Mernda to Greensborough, offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the outdoors while discovering the incredible diversity of wildlife that calls our local area home.

Nature Walks: Exploring Plenty River Gorge

On these guided community walks (starting from 5km and upwards), you might spot colourful birdlife such as the sacred kingfisher, royal spoonbill, Gang-gang Cockatoo, and King Parrot. Keep your eyes peeled for our furry locals too – kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, and swamp wallabies all call the Gorge home.

Each walk is led by knowledgeable local volunteers, who will share fascinating insights into the flora, fauna, and history of the area as you wander through its scenic trails.

These walks are a wonderful way to stay active, enjoy the fresh air, and appreciate the natural beauty surrounding our community.

For updates on future walk dates, visit Plenty Gorge Parklands Facebook page

Please note that the walks are not suitable for prams or very young children, as some paths can be uneven and rough.
