From 20–26 October, join thousands of Australians taking part in this year’s Aussie Bird Count – it only takes 20 minutes! Simply count the birds you see in your backyard, balcony, schoolyard, workplace, or local park, and help create a national snapshot of our feathered friends.
Last year, 57,000 people counted over 4.1 million birds – let’s make 2025 even bigger!

This is Australia’s biggest citizen science event – and remember, every bird counts!
While you are helping our birds, please also help protect them from deadly poisons. Rat poisons are killing Aussie birds and other wildlife. A federal review is now underway, with a decision expected soon.
Join BirdLife Australia, along with vets, ecologists, and wildlife advocates, in calling for these dangerous second-generation rat poisons to be removed from supermarket shelves.
