Year 4 and HifzA Excursion to the "Polly Woodside" and Cook’s Cottage

On Wednesday, 26th August 2015, our Year 4 and HifzA students (from Years 3 and 4 Hifz) embarked on a journey back in time when they first visited the replica of a historic tall ship, the "Polly Woodside" and Captain Cook’s Cottage afterwards.

On board the "Polly Woodside", the students learnt about life on board an early 20th century vessel, could inspect the ship mates' rather tiny sleeping cabin, try their hands on some of the ship’s coal cargo and learnt many other fascinating aspects on board such a vessel. The highlight for students was "rocking the boat" and assisting in "scrubbing the deck".

The students then stepped back on land and headed (by modern means of transport) to Captain Cook’s Cottage in the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens where they explored the cottage, went on a treasure hunt and and could also try on some traditional garments.

The excursion was greatly enjoyed by all our students, staff and parent volunteers.
