Our Foundation students enjoyed a special celebration of “World Kangaroo Day 2026” this week, with plenty of hopping, laughter and opportunities to learn about one of Australia’s most iconic native animals.
Ms Tanja brought the excitement to storytime by dressing up as a kangaroo and sharing the book “Marsupial Sue” by John Lithgow, a delightful story about a young kangaroo discovering the importance of being happy with who she is.
The students also enjoyed cutting out and making their own kangaroo masks, adding a creative touch to the celebration!
The excitement continued as our little joeys climbed into coffee bean sacks transformed into kangaroo pouches and hopped their way through the morning, bringing plenty of smiles and giggles along the way!
Beyond the fun, the celebration was a wonderful opportunity to introduce our youngest learners to the importance of protecting kangaroos and their natural habitats. Through stories, play and discussion, students discovered how even small actions can help care for our unique Australian wildlife.
It was a joyful way to celebrate World Kangaroo Day while nurturing a love for nature and a sense of responsibility for the animals we share our world with.
