Little Anglers Kits Handed Out to Year 6 Boys

9 December 2025

On the final day of Term 4, our Year 6 boys received a special graduation gift: the first of 120 Little Anglers Kits generously provided by Fishing Authority Victoria. Each kit includes a junior fishing rod, tackle box, basic gear and a safety guide to help students begin their fishing journey with confidence and care.

The Little Anglers initiative introduces children to recreational fishing while emphasising safe, responsible and environmentally aware practices. To support this, our Head of PE Mr Daniel Saleh demonstrated how to correctly set up and use the fishing rods, ensuring students know how to get started safely.

Representing Wildlife Victoria as one of their volunteers,  Ms Tanja delivered a short but highly important presentation on the environmental impacts of incorrect fishing practices. Students learned how discarded fishing gear harms local wildlife, including water birds, bats and marine life that can become entangled in fishing lines and hooks. Additionally, these items do not decompose quickly and remain in our waterways for years and pose long-term risks.

Ms Tanja reminded students that as Muslims, we are taught that humanity has been appointed as custodians of the earth, entrusted by Allah to protect and care for all creation. Linked with one of our College mottos “It starts with me”, this message reinforces the personal responsibility each student holds to clean up after fishing, dispose of gear properly and never leave lines or hooks behind.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Fishing Authority Victoria Wildlife Victoria for supporting our students in learning to enjoy fishing in a safe, ethical and environmentally responsible way. Together, we aim to ensure that the joy of fishing always goes hand in hand with care for the environment.
