Last week, our Student Support Department (SSD) partnered with Shooters Shoot, a youth-led, Islamic faith-based mental health and basketball organisation, to deliver a unique Wellbeing and Resilience Program for our Year 6 students.
The incursion combined faith, physical activity, and emotional learning through two engaging sessions:
Journaling & Emotional Resilience WorkshopAn interactive session exploring emotional intelligence, resilience, self-expression, and managing challenging emotions, guided by faith-informed journaling practices.
Basketball & Emotional Regulation SessionA structured basketball workshop focused on teamwork, emotional control, respect, conflict resolution, and positive participation.
Each student received a specialised journal from Shooters Shoot and learned how to use it as a daily tool for mental wellbeing and self-reflection.
This initiative was developed in direct response to the needs identified within the Year 6 cohort, including challenges around emotional resilience, conflict management, appropriate expression of emotions, peer respect, and healthy coping strategies. The program reinforced the meaningful connection between Islamic teachings, physical health, and mental wellbeing.
