2025 Canberra Camp: A Journey Through Australia’s Capital

17 November 2025

Our 2025 Canberra Camp provided Year 9 students with an enriching Civics and Citizenship experience, bringing their Humanities learning to life through visits to Australia’s most significant national institutions.

2025 Canberra Camp: A Journey Through Australia’s Capital

Students explored Parliament House, the Old Parliament House, the High Court, and the National Archives, gaining firsthand insight into how Australia’s democracy, laws and government systems work. They also visited the National Capital Exhibition, learning about the planning and development of Canberra as the nation’s capital.

The camp included engaging educational experiences at Questacon, moments of reflection at the Australian War Memorial, and opportunities to appreciate nature at the National Arboretum, National Botanical Garden, and the picturesque Old Parliament House Gardens. A stop at Mount Ainslie offered stunning views of the city and its surroundings.

The Australian Government supports young Australians visiting the national capital as part of Civics and Citizenship education. Al Siraat can receive a PACER rebate of up to $45 per student (higher for more distant schools), paid directly to the College. We thank the Government for their support – 2025 marks the seventh time our students have enjoyed this insightful interstate trip.

Our Year 9’s returned with a deeper understanding of Australia’s national identity, democratic processes, and cultural history. We are proud of how they represented Al Siraat College and grateful to all staff and families who supported this memorable learning experience.
