Year 8 Excursion to QVM: Sustainability in Action

4 June 2026

Our Year 8 LEAP students visited Queen Victoria Market as part of their Sustainability Inquiry unit earlier on 21 May 2026.

Year 8 Excursion to QVM: Sustainability in Action

Our students enjoyed a guided tour and explored one of Melbourne’s most iconic destinations, while experiencing the many sights, sounds and smells of the market. From fresh produce and specialty foods to busy traders and community spaces, the excursion provided a rich and engaging learning experience beyond the classroom.

Throughout the day, students investigated real-world examples of sustainability in action: They learned how businesses and organisations at the market work to reduce waste, manage resources responsibly and support more sustainable food systems. Students were able to see how environmental, social and economic sustainability are connected in everyday life.

The excursion helped bring classroom learning to life and provided valuable evidence and ideas for students’ Inquiry Reports. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their understanding of sustainability while enjoying a memorable day of learning in the heart of Melbourne.

A special thank you to the staff who supported and supervised the excursion. Their organisation, guidance and care helped make the day a safe, enjoyable and successful learning experience for all students.
