Our very own Year 6 student Zayn Abdallah has been outstanding in his high performance recognition in AFL to be selected for one of the biggest Academies in Australia.
Below is a summary of Zayn’s experience, in his own words:
This year, qualifying in the 12–15 age category, I had the opportunity to try out for the Adam Saad Academy. I attended an ATP (Athlete Talent Profile) assessment, which tested our sporting abilities. I was quite nervous due to a wrist injury, which had a big impact on my performance.
After several weeks, I received my results. Alhamdulilah, I did well and placed in the top 5 high-performance group, which allowed me to make the Adam Saad Academy.
The Adam Saad Program is run by the Carlton Football Club and is designed to help kids like me develop both football and life skills. The program is coached by Adam Saad himself and includes leadership training, cultural awareness, and educational sessions, alongside football skills and an insight into the lifestyle of a professional athlete.
During my time in the academy, I had the chance to meet athletes from diverse cultural backgrounds and form new friendships. I also had the privilege of being coached by Carlton legend Greg “Diesel” Williams.
One of the biggest highlights of the academy was being able to train on the field of one of the greatest teams in the AFL—Carlton!
