Bread Tag Recycling Project 2021

Since 2019, our SRC (Student Representative Council) leaders have been collecting bread tags to help save them from going into landfill and thus helping people who cannot afford a wheelchair to get one. We are pleased to announce that we continue to collect bread tags this year.

The Australian recycling company "Transmutation – Reuse, Reduce, Recycle", based in South Australia, have agreed to regularly buy batches of tags from Melbourne’s “Aussie Bread Tags for Wheel Chairs office” for recycling purposes. They recycled bread tags into bowls, pens, door knobs, clocks and coasters.

The proceeds are used to provide wheelchairs for disadvantaged people in South Africa. 500 kg of bread tags would help to purchase 2 or 3 wheel chairs for someone in need.

Bread tags can be found on all bakery items, spring onions, potato and onion bags. Please continue to save them at home in a jar. When you have accumulated enough bread tags, bring them to school and drop them into your child’s house-coloured bread jars located in their classrooms.

We are not collecting bread ties at this stage because these are metal surrounded by plastic and therefore not suitable for recycling.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact SRC Coordinator Ms Noori, Environmental Captain Junayd Ayoubi, College Captains Humza Ghouse and Laila Rashid or any SRC members for further information.
