SRC Writing Instruments Recycling Project

Our Student Representative Council (SRC) members are working hard to promote waste recycling programs at the College. For their third current recycling project, SRCs have partnered with Office Works to save writing instruments from going into landfills. Recycling is important as it helps to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill. Landfill sites produces harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses, and recycling seeks to minimise this issue and repurposing them.

Once collected, the writing instruments are to be cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remoulded to make new recycled products, which are served back to the community.

All writing instruments below could be recycled regardless of their plastic or metal composition:

  • Pens
  • Fountain pens
  • Felt tips
  • Highlighters
  • Permanent markers
  • White board markers
  • Correction fluid pots
  • Correction tapes
  • Eraser pens
  • Mechanical pencils and
  • Pen caps.

The following items below CANNOT be accepted for recycling at this time:

  • Wooden pencils
  • Crayons
  • Chalk
  • Glue sticks
  • Rubber Erasers
  • Rulers (wooden or plastic)
  • Scissors.

We request students, staff and parents to save their writing instruments from going into the bin by simply collecting them and dropping them off at the College drop off locations. These are located in at the Primary and Secondary School and at reception.

The project is open for the remainder of 2021.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact SRC Coordinator Ms Noori, College Captains Humza Ghouse or Laila Rashid, or Environmental Captain Junayd Ayoubi.
