This morning marked a significant milestone for our College with the arrival of the first modules for our brand-new Year 10 – 12 building.
Many in our community would have noticed the growing activity at the front of the College in recent weeks. Today, the site came alive with the movement of cranes and trucks as the first phase of modules were delivered and carefully positioned into place.
This moment signals the beginning of our exciting upgrade to the Senior School facilities. Once complete, InShaAllah, the new Year 10 – 12 building will provide our senior students with modern, purpose-built learning spaces that will support their academic journey through VCE and beyond. These enhanced facilities will be an important part of nurturing our students’ learning, growth, and success in the years ahead.
May Allah ﷻ bless this project, protect all those working on it, and grant its successful and safe completion. May He make this building a place of beneficial knowledge, growth, and guidance for our students, enabling them to benefit our community and beyond. Ameen.
As a College, we are deeply grateful to be able to invest in the future of our students and to share this historic development with our community.

This week, our Year 4 cohort ventured out to the Western Treatment Plant for a memorable learning experience focused on the Urban Water Cycle. This real‑world excursion brought their classroom studies to life and deepened their understanding of how water is managed, treated, and recycled in our city.
Our students were fascinated to learn that the treatment plant is as large as Phillip Island and processes nearly half of Melbourne’s wastewater. They followed the journey of water through each stage of treatment from stormwater drains and sewer systems to enormous tanks and recycled water channels. Students were amazed by the scale and complexity of it all.
They also discovered how wastewater from homes and schools is cleaned and made safe before being reused as recycled water. They are now little experts on Class A and Class C recycled water and even know how many days it takes for water to pass through the treatment process!
Some favourite facts included:
- Melbourne’s first toilet was flushed in 1857!
- Each year, migratory shorebirds fly from Siberia to rest and feed in the plant’s wetlands.
Rich discussions throughout the day helped students connect water, people, and wildlife, and understand the importance of protecting and conserving our natural resources. They saw science in action, asked thoughtful questions, and came away with a new appreciation for water sustainability and the hidden systems that support our city.
It was a day full of curiosity, discovery, and learning. A big thank you to the Year 4 team and staff who made this excursion such a success!

Sixteen of our Year 9 Interfaith students recently visited St Monica’s College in Epping as part of our ongoing Interfaith Dialogue Project. This program helps students explore what it means to be an Australian Muslim while promoting respect and understanding between faiths.
During the visit, our students participated in a meaningful interfaith dialogue workshop, shared refreshments, and toured the SMC campus alongside their Interfaith student leaders. A highlight of the day was the group discussion, where students openly shared their beliefs and cultures, helping to break down stereotypes and build lasting connections.
We thank St Monica’s College for their warm hospitality. This excursion was a valuable step in building bridges between communities through mutual respect and open dialogue.
Student Reflections
“Our recent interfaith visit to St Monica’s College was a valuable and eye-opening experience. We were warmly welcomed and began the day with a meaningful dialogue, where we exchanged thoughts about our faiths and shared common values. We then visited their College chapel, where we learned about Catholic customs and practices and were able to ask them some questions. We then had a nice school tour before ending the visit with another round of respectful dialogue and heading back. It was a beautiful reminder of the importance of understanding, respect, and unity across faiths and as Muslims.” - Mohaned Dao, Year 9L

“The excursion to St Monica’s today was not only enjoyable but incredibly fascinating! I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to visit them especially because I have always been so curious about many aspects of Christianity and how their faith differs from ours. I really enjoyed touring the school and seeing all the facilities and resources they had available (like the FIFA approved soccer field). My personal favourites were undoubtedly the library and the chapel where we gained a deeper understanding of their prayers and had the chance to ask questions in a respectful environment.” - Nabiha Khan, Year 9L

On Tuesday, 29 July 2025, our College Captains, Vice-Captain, and two Year 12 Senior Student Representatives proudly represented Al Siraat at the annual Student Representative Council (SRC) Forum hosted by Al Taqwa College.
Bringing together SRC students and staff from Islamic schools across Melbourne, the forum was a vibrant space for connection, leadership growth, and learning. Students participated in engaging activities and a workshop on Leadership from an Islamic Perspective, encouraging reflection on values such as sincerity (Ikhlas), intention (Niyyah), and responsibility (Amanah).
Our student leaders found the forum enriching and inspiring, as they shared experiences, discussed challenges, and explored ways to strengthen student voice in their own school communities.
We sincerely thank Al Taqwa College for hosting this year’s event and for their dedication to building a strong and supportive network among SRC representatives across Islamic schools.
Student Reflections
“The environment at the Al-Taqwa Leadership Muslim Get-Together was truly immersive. The ongoing exchange between students and teachers kept us actively engaged and made the experience feel dynamic and meaningful. The ideas shared about the De Bono Hats, especially their integration with Islamic values, were both thought-provoking and inspiring. I feel genuinely honoured and lucky to have had the opportunity to take part in such an enriching event.” – Afra Shehzad, Year 12
“The SRC Islamic interschool forum at Al-Taqwa College was a powerful reminder that many people judge Islam not by the Quran or Hadith, but by the way we carry ourselves in our daily lives. We explored prophetic leadership qualities such as Ikhlas (sincerity) and Niyyah (intention), which reminded us that true leadership begins with a pure heart and purpose. Most importantly, it reinforced that leadership is an Amanah (trust and responsibility) that must be upheld with integrity and accountability.” – Farhan Abid, Year 12 (ASC Boys Vice-Captain)
“Our visit to Al Taqwa College was a valuable opportunity for the captains of Al Siraat to deepen their understanding of leadership through collaboration and open dialogue. The workshop fostered meaningful connections between student leaders and encouraged the exchange of ideas, challenges, and aspirations. It was inspiring to see young leaders unite with purpose, walking away with renewed confidence and a shared sense of community.” – Amaar Hamida, Year 12 (ASC Boys Captain)

Our commitment to Hifz is shown by recruiting specialist Hufaaz who are dedicated in progressing their students through an intensive and rigorous program of studies. Other specialist teachers are available to ensure that students are able to concurrently achieve the outcomes of the Australian curriculum.
The criteria to get into one of the Hifz classes is based upon the student having a successful academic record for mainstream subjects, being proficient in the reading of Quran, and demonstrating mastery of memorisation of Juz 30.
An assessment is conducted by one of our Hifz teachers and after a two week trial period (depending on availability at the time of application), a decision is made about the enrolment into this special program.
As class sizes are limited, the competition to get into one of these classes is high.
At present, the program is only offered for current students in Year 2 who are going to be in Year 3 next year.
Please note that 2026 HIFZ applications closed on 1st August 2025.
Online Islamophobia can take many forms, from hate-filled posts to abusive messages or biased news content.
It is crucial to stand united against all forms of hate, racism, discrimination, and prejudice wherever it occurs across Australia. Reporting incidents of Islamophobia not only supports victims seeking justice, but also helps raise national awareness of these harms.
By reporting, we contribute to accurate data collection, which is essential for informed policies and targeted strategies to address anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, and anti-Palestinian racism.
Please visit 🔗 www.actionagainstislamophobia.org.au to report any online Islamophobia instances.
Let’s take action together to protect and uplift our communities.
