The Al Siraat community proudly celebrates the recognition of Mr Rana Shahid, who was recently honoured at a Government House Victoria award ceremony for his outstanding contributions to multicultural work.

The award was personally presented in December by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, in recognition of Mr Shahid’s long standing commitment to inclusion, unity, and dedicated community service across Victoria.

This distinguished honour not only acknowledges Mr Shahid’s individual achievements, but also shines a light on the vital role that community leaders play in fostering a more inclusive, compassionate, and connected society.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr Rana Shahid on this well deserved and inspiring recognition, and thank him for his ongoing contributions to building a more inclusive and connected society.

With hot summer days here now, we kindly ask our Al Siraat families to spare a moment for our native wildlife and pets. The high temperatures can be extremely challenging for birds, mammals, insects and even our own furry companions. If you are feeling the heat, so is the wildlife around you.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to help is by leaving shallow bowls of fresh water outside.

Tips to keep wildlife safe and hydrated:

  • Use only shallow bowls, so small animals do not drown
  • Add sticks, stones or a branch that reaches the edge of the bowl. This gives smaller creatures and insects a way out if they fall in
  • Avoid metal bowls, as these can heat up quickly and burn delicate feet or paws
  • Always place bowls in the shade and check them regularly to top up the water and ensure they remain cool.
  • Hose down trees and shrubs in the morning and evening or run a sprinkler for a short time during the day. This creates cool refuge spaces for wildlife.

If you see an animal in distress

Please contact local The Wildlife Rescuers Inc – 0417 506 941 or Wildlife Victoria on 8400 7300 immediately. Early intervention can save lives.

Thank you for caring for our wildlife and for helping to make a difference during these hot summer days. Providing water and shelter for Allah’s creatures is an act of sadaqah, and every small effort counts. May Allah reward you for your kindness and compassion towards His creations.

Whittlesea Community Connections (WCC) is currently seeking Volunteer Driver Buddies to support their fresh produce delivery program for families experiencing hardship.

Volunteers are needed on Mondays, Tuesdays or Fridays between 9.00am and 3.00pm

The role does not require any driving. Driver Buddies simply accompany volunteer drivers, assist with deliveries, and offer a friendly presence along the way.
