Updated April 2020

Welcome back to the first full week of remote learning in Week 2 of term. We are very grateful for your patience as our teaching, IT and support teams continue to work extremely hard to facilitate an enriching learning experience for your children. While we still experience some teething issues, the overall feedback has been quite positive from both parents and staff. We are providing a short list of today’s most common questions and answers below.

Please note that we have received the information that several internet providers now offer free or highly discounted NBN until the end of September for families on Job Seeker or Family Tax Benefit. We encourage you to contact your home internet provider to check if you are eligible.

Highlights

  • Our Secondary students greatly enjoyed their online practical in Food Tech. We are grateful for the following feedback from one of our Year 8 students: “I found this experience fun and not that challenging. It was great and I am looking forward to doing many more practicals.”
  • We had a high student participation amongst Primary and Secondary School today, with more than 90% of students attending their relevant Zoom sessions.
  • Our YEAR 2 held Parent Q&A Sessions today for each class, with an amazing turnout: All questions forwarded to teachers were answered with clarification. Teachers were very happy in receiving the positive reviews on the current lessons conducted thus far. Alhamdulillah.

Daily Q & A

Q: I am having problems with the zoom links for my child. Where can I find them?

A: The zoom links should be in Google Classroom under the relevant subject. We are currently working on resolving the issue of missing links and should have this completed in the next few days.

Q: I cannot find the Google class code, where is it?

A: The Google class code is on the card that was attached to the email sent last Saturday with your child’s email address and password at the bottom of the page.

Q: The Google class code was missing from the card attached to the email that was received. Where can I get that code?

Please contact your child’s class teacher by email and cc to cc@alsiraat.vic.edu.au so that we are able to assist you. The teacher should respond to you during their contact time, in sha Allah.

Q: I can’t find my child’s Showbie class code. Where can I find it?

A: Your teacher will be sending you the codes within the next few days.

Q: Is the Salaat program compulsory?

A: Yes. We would like all students to attend. Please encourage your children to attend the program. The links were sent out last week and remain the same.

Welcome Ramadan Inspiration

This year, our most honoured and anticipated guest, the holy month of Ramadan will be a very different experience for us all, with the College’s musallah closed as like all other places of worship in the country. Families won’t be able to come together as usual for the daily breaking of the fast (iftar) nor to pray Tarawih in unison with our brothers and sisters. Now more than ever it is important that we stay connected with our school community. Allahu Ta’ala created us as one ummah, so we may be of support to one another, share our feelings of joy (and yes, frustration, too), relieve us of stress, feelings of loneliness and to stop the build-up of anxiety.

With Ramadan fast approaching towards the end of this week, we would like to invite you to email us photos or a short description of how YOU and your family welcome the month of mercy, blessings and forgiveness:

Do you plan on doing anything special with your children, like having a Ramadan calendar hung up on the wall or sending the kids for a little treasure hunt each night after maghrib? If so, we would love to hear from you on info@alsiraat.vic.edu.au. Please send us a snapshot of the beautiful Ramadan decoration you will or have already put up inside your house. We look forward to sharing your joy and excitement with our community.

This is all from us for today. We will be back with another update for you tomorrow and wish you and your loved ones a restful evening and good night.
