Our Year 5 students recently took part in an engaging incursion focused on weathering and erosion. Through a series of hands-on observational experiments, they explored how natural forces slowly break down and move materials in the environment.
Students used chalk, sand, containers, vinegar and sugar cubes to simulate real-world processes, including the effect of acid on rocks and how particles are worn away over time.
The activities helped our students see that weathering is not just something that happens “out there” in nature, but a process that can be modelled, observed and understood through careful investigation.
It was wonderful to see our Year 5’s working collaboratively, making predictions, observing changes closely and connecting their experiments to the way rocks, landforms and landscapes change over time.
