Years 3–6 Dojo Reward: “Story of the Moving Image” at ACMI

3 July 2025

Students from Years 3 to 6 who earned top dojo honours were treated to an exciting excursion to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) this week. The special visit celebrated their positive efforts with a journey through time at the Story of the Moving Image exhibition.

The session was packed with hands-on learning and discovery. Students explored how artists, inventors and filmmakers have used light, shadow, time, movement, colour and sound throughout history to tell stories and bring images to life. From shadow puppetry, the earliest form of animation, to vintage film cameras and cutting-edge interactive displays, students gained a fascinating insight into the evolution of storytelling through technology.

Highlights of the visit included experimenting with storyboards, playing retro video games, and watching how early film and animation techniques paved the way for the media we enjoy today. The students came away inspired, engaged, and full of ideas, making it a memorable and educational reward for their hard work.

Congratulations again to all our top dojo students for earning this well-deserved experience!
