Year 8: Business & Economics Incursion

26 February 2026

This week, our Year 8 students participated in an engaging Business and Economics incursion featuring Furkan Aytekin, Director of ATEK Group, who shared valuable insights into his career in the building and construction industry.

Year 8: Business & Economics Incursion

During the session, students connected their classroom learning to real-life business practices. Furkan discussed the current housing market in Australia, explaining how changes in demand and population growth influence the number and type of homes being built. This provided a practical example of the Law of Demand, as he described how client preferences and affordability directly shape building projects and pricing.

Furkan highlighted the importance of setting clear business goals, including supporting his team and delivering high-quality, innovative homes while meeting client needs. He explained strategies for cutting production costs such as recommending good quality affordable materials to clients on a lower budget while still ensuring quality outcomes.

A key area of interest for students was the growing impact of machinery and AI in the construction industry. Furkan described how advanced tools, digital design software, and automation improve accuracy and efficiency, ultimately reducing build times and helping businesses meet deadlines efficiently.

Overall, the incursion provided students with an authentic understanding of how Business and Economics concepts operate beyond the classroom, demonstrating how market forces and entrepreneurial decision-making influence the built environment they see every day.
