Today, our College came alive with colour and a strong sense of belonging as students across both Primary and Secondary School celebrated Cultural Day. It was wonderful to see the majority of students arrive dressed in their traditional cultural attire, representing the rich diversity that makes our community so special.

Cultural Day at Al Siraat aims to celebrate and honour the many cultures within our school community. With over 50 different cultural backgrounds represented among our students and staff, the day provided a meaningful opportunity for everyone to express their cultural identity. Students were encouraged to wear attire that reflects their heritage, while respectfully adhering to Islamic dress code guidelines.

While the school day continued as normal, the initiative brought an added sense of excitement and community spirit to classrooms and shared spaces alike. The day fostered a strong sense of unity and appreciation for cultural diversity, as students shared stories, traditions, and experiences with one another.

Adding to the celebrations, our VET Business students ran a variety of stalls as part of their assessment, showcasing both creativity and entrepreneurial skills. A delicious range of items was available, including sausage sizzles and drinks, brownies with ice cream, nachos, donuts, lollies, mocktails, and noodle cups.

We thank our students, staff, and families for embracing this special day and contributing to the vibrant cultures that defines our College community.

As part of International Women’s Day 2026, a group of our senior girls attended a special luncheon at Parliament of Victoria, where they engaged with leaders and explored the role of women in shaping society. This year’s theme, “Balance the Scales”, encouraged important conversations around fairness, representation, and the ongoing need to address inequality affecting women and girls.

Throughout the day, our Senior students gained insight into leadership and decision-making within government, while also having the opportunity to ask questions and hear perspectives from Ministers on issues that matter to young people today. These discussions prompted reflection on the importance of advocacy, confidence, and active participation in community and civic life.

Representing the College were:

  1. Halimah Sheikh
  2. Kadija Siddiqui
  3. Aamina Rajap
  4. Syeda Fatima Ali
  5. Azran Azim.

The experience extended beyond formal discussions, as our  Senior girls connected with peers from a range of schools, exchanging ideas and perspectives in a supportive and collaborative environment. These interactions highlighted the value of student voice, and the impact young people can have when they are informed and engaged.

A visit to the Parliamentary chambers, along with the opportunity to observe proceedings firsthand, further deepened students’ understanding of how policies and decisions are made.

Going to State Parliament was an incredible opportunity that gave me a deeper understanding of how this system works. The visit was genuinely informative and helped me see the decision‑making process up close. My favourite part was Question Time, where the energy and debate made the whole experience unforgettable. – Halimah Sheikh, Year 12

I really enjoyed this excursion because it allowed me to have the opportunity to meet and learn about the women who lead in parliament. It was inspiring to see their roles and understand how they contribute to creating fairness and change. I also loved meeting all the other lovely staff and student leaders from our nearby schools. - Azran Azim, Year 12

We extend our appreciation to The Honourable Lily D’Ambrosio MP and Kris Pavlidis for providing our students with this opportunity. The experience offered meaningful insights and encouraged our students to consider their own roles in contributing to a more equitable future.

At Al Siraat, we are committed to fostering a community that upholds Islamic values of respect, responsibility, and care for others. As such, we kindly remind all parents and guardians of the importance of adhering to road safety rules and parking regulations when dropping off or picking up children.

To ensure the safety of our students, staff, and neighbours, please observe the following:

  1. Respect Our Neighbours: Do not park in front of driveways, as this causes inconvenience and may lead to complaints.
  2. Follow Road Signs & Speed Limits: Obey all ‘No Parking’ signs, speed limits, and other road rules at all times.
  3. Use Designated Drop-Off & Pick-Up Zones: These zones are designed to ensure a smooth and safe process. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in these areas.
  4. Allow Extra Time: Congestion can occur during peak hours. Plan your arrival with sufficient time to avoid unnecessary stress.
  5. Pedestrian Safety: Teach your children to always look both ways before crossing the road. They must ALWAYS use the designated pedestrian crossings and follow the instructions of our crossing supervisors.
  6. Council Enforcement: The local council is actively monitoring traffic compliance around the school. Fines will be issued to those who fail to obey parking and road regulations.

Observing these guidelines is not only a legal requirement but also an Islamic duty of Amanah (trust) and Ihsan (excellence in conduct). The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself." (Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim)

Let us embody these values by ensuring that our actions reflect care and consideration for our community. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in making the school environment safe and harmonious for everyone.
