Alhamdullilah, our five-day Canberra Experience was an unforgettable journey filled with learning, friendship, and personal growth. Students had the opportunity to step beyond the classroom and explore some of Australia’s most significant national sites while creating memories that will last well beyond the trip.
Throughout the week, students visited Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, Museum of Australian Democracy, High Court of Australia, Questacon, National Museum of Australia, and National Archives of Australia. These experiences brought learning to life and deepened students’ understanding of Australia’s Civics and Citizenship.
Students also explored Canberra’s natural landscape beauty at the National Arboretum, Australian National Botanic Gardens and during the Mount Ainslie Trail walk, where they encouraged one another through the challenge and enjoyed spectacular views of the capital.
Most importantly, the Canberra Experience was also about the bonds created during the experience. Time spent together at the Masajids, praying, participating in Halaqas, reflecting, and sharing meaningful conversations strengthened students’ sense of Islam, brotherhood and sisterhood, and belonging. Moments of play, laughter, shared meals and friendly game competition also allowed students to form new friendships and strengthen existing ones.
Reflections from a Year 9 student
The five-day Canberra Experience felt like a big group gathering where everyone slowly became closer without even trying. Waking up at 4am for Fajr was hard, but because we were all struggling together, it turned into something we laughed about. The bus rides were always fun, with people talking, joking, and playing nasheeds, and every park stop somehow became a whole photoshoot.
After Isha Salah, we’d go to the playground or play sports at the mosque, which ended up being the part everyone looked forward to the most. At night we’d visit each other’s cabins, build connections, and just enjoy being around each other.
The Mount Ainslie Walk, which everyone complained about at first, became one of the funniest and most memorable things we did. The Parliament roleplay had us acting like politicians. Questacon was full of interactive things that were fun.
The food provided kept us energised and fuelled us for the busy daily schedule. By the end of the Experience, we had made new connections with other students from other classes, and it also made the current connections with friends stronger.
The five days reminded us that some of the most valuable learning happens through shared experiences and whilst we are away from the classroom. Students returned with greater knowledge, stronger friendships, deeper connections with their teachers and an appreciation for Islam, community and one another.

Our students competed in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) tournament, taking on eight schools and demonstrating impressive skill, teamwork and determination throughout the day.
Our Girls A Team finished as Runners Up, while our Girls B Team were crowned Premiers. An incredible achievement for both teams!
Our boys also delivered fantastic performances, with our teams finishing 3rd and 4th overall.
Beyond the results, we are incredibly proud of the way our students represented Al Siraat. They showed resilience, respect, sportsmanship and wonderful team spirit both on and off the court.

Get ready for an inspiring and action-packed Youth Halaqa Night for Secondary boys, featuring a very special guest: Mini Nachar, World Champion Kickboxer!
Mini Nachar will be joining our young men for an engaging session combining faith, discipline, resilience, goal-setting and the importance of maintaining a strong mind and body. He will also be running a kickboxing clinic as a part of the Boys Halaqa program.
His journey as a world champion offers a powerful opportunity for our students to hear firsthand about the dedication, perseverance and commitment required to achieve excellence.

We were delighted to recently welcome a group of 45 international students and 7 staff from SMP Al Hikmah Surabaya, Indonesia to Al Siraat College on Monday, 31 August and Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
As part of our International Student Immersion Program, the visiting students engaged in shared learning experiences with our Year 9 LEAP students. Across the two days, different groups of Indonesian students joined our daily school program, taking part in lessons alongside their Al Siraat peers. From the classroom to lunchtime, our students had the chance to connect, share experiences and learn more about each other’s cultures and school life.
Highlights of the Visit
• 45 international students and 7 staff from SMP Al Hikmah Surabaya joined us for the two day immersion experience.
• Guided school tours gave our visitors the opportunity to explore the Al Siraat campus and learn more about our College.
• Shared classroom learning allowed the Indonesian students to participate in lessons alongside our Year 9 LEAP students and experience our learning environment firsthand.
• Cultural exchange and meaningful conversations gave students the opportunity to share ideas, experiences and perspectives about education and life in Indonesia and Australia.
• New friendships were formed as students worked together, got to know one another and developed confidence communicating with peers from different cultural backgrounds.
The experience was a wonderful opportunity for our students to practise intercultural communication, build new friendships and discover that while our schools may be in different countries, there is plenty that brings young people together.
A big thank you to our Year 9 LEAP students and teachers for making our Indonesian visitors feel so welcome and helping create such a memorable international learning experience.

Alhamdulillah, this is another proud moment for Al Siraat College. We are delighted to share that Al Siraat College Team 2 – The Amazing Group – has received a 2026 Spirit of TOM Award, marking the first time an ASC team has earned this special recognition.
This award is not based on competition scores. Awarded at the discretion of the Tournament of Minds Directors, it recognises the attitude, character and teamwork students demonstrate throughout the experience. When technology problems affected the team’s long-term challenge presentation, the students persevered and continued trying different solutions despite feeling nervous and unsettled.
The judges were particularly impressed by the positive and uplifting way the students supported one another afterwards. They congratulated each other on their efforts, reflected on what had gone well and reassured one another that they could improve next time.

Our Year 3 – 6 students recently took part in the annual Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee, challenging themselves to think quickly, apply their spelling knowledge and tackle a wide range of vocabulary.

Reaching the State Round is a wonderful achievement and reflects the effort, focus and confidence these students demonstrated. Opportunities like the Spelling Bee also help students build vocabulary, strengthen literacy skills and develop the confidence to perform under pressure.
Our finalists have certainly ‘spelled their way to success', and we are very proud to see them representing the College at the next stage of the competition.

Our Year 4 students had a fantastic opportunity this week to take their Term 3 Science learning beyond the classroom during a “Mad About Science” incursion focused on Forces.
As they continue exploring how forces affect the movement of objects, students were able to see their classroom learning come to life through a fun and interactive session. The experience encouraged them to think like young scientists, make predictions, observe what happened and connect their observations to the science concepts they have been learning.
There was plenty of excitement, curiosity and hands on learning along the way, with students enthusiastically getting involved and sharing what they already knew.
It was a wonderful way to reinforce their learning about forces while showing them that science is not just something we read about in a textbook. It is happening all around us!

Our Year 5 boys have been enjoying regular opportunities to spend time with our Foundation students, building friendships and sharing their knowledge with our youngest learners.
The boys took on the role of coaches as they introduced the Foundation students to the fundamentals of volleyball. From demonstrating basic skills to encouraging the little ones as they had a go, our Year 5 students showed wonderful patience, kindness and enthusiasm.
These special interactions are a beautiful reflection of the Islamic values we strive to nurture in our students. Islam encourages us to support one another, share what we know and be of benefit to those around us. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that “Allah helps the servant as long as the servant helps his brother.” (Sahih Muslim)
Whether it is teaching a new skill, offering encouragement or simply taking the time to help someone younger, these small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.
We are proud to see our Year 5 boys embracing their role as positive role models and demonstrating that learning is not only about what we gain, but also about what we can give to others.
