Last year marked the 10th anniversary of Ms Tanja and Team Al Siraat riding in the annual Great Cycle Challenge (GCC) to fundraise for kids fighting cancer, having raised over $45,000 in funds, supporting lifesaving research into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of childhood cancer.
The GCC is the annual fundraiser for the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) in Sydney’s Westmead, kicking off every year on 1st October, to help raise funds and awareness for kids fighting cancer. Fundraising and riding goals are set individually by each rider and can range from 1 km to a few hundred km. Family, friends, colleagues and local businesses then sponsor the cycling efforts via the rider’s fundraising page.
Cancer is still the largest killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, three children die from cancer every week.
Since Great Cycle Challenge started in 2013, the fundraiser has become one of the biggest cycling events in Australia, enjoyed by more than 80,000 amateur and professionals, from every state and territory who have raised more than $30 million.
