Maktab Evening School Program

Updated February 2024

Our after-school Maktab Program has been successfully running on site since September 2018. Classes for 2024 will be starting up again soon, running from Monday to Thursday, 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

This school, also called the Maktab, has opened up doors for youth of the community to learn the Quran with tajwīd, and acquire Islamic studies including hadith, sīra, history and Islamic etiquette. The program will equip them with knowledge, wisdom and Islamic tarbiya (training), and establish their connection to the mosque environment to help them become practicing Muslims and ambassadors of Islam.

The Evening School is for all school-going youth. If your child is currently enrolled at Al Siraat, this will help accelerate their progress in recitation and memorization, and you will qualify for a discounted fee. If he or she is currently progressing satisfactorily in our Islamic Studies courses, they may be placed in alternate classes that will help them focus on areas they require more.

The Maktab Fee is currently $65 per month for current Al Siraat students and $85 per month for all other students.

There are currently two streams of enrolment for this program: QURAN AND ISLAMIC STUDIES

2. Memorization of Quran and hadith texts

Objectives:

  • Memorization of a collection of suras in each level
  • Memorization of a vast collection of supplications and adhkar
  • Memorization of a significant collection of hadith

3. Islamic Studies

Objectives:

  • Complete 8-level Islamic Studies curriculum (My Deen series by Mufti Aasim Rashid)
  • Wide range of Islamic knowledge including aqida(beliefs), worships, Prophetic Seera, History of Islam, Tafsir and hadith

How it is Taught

Each course is taught in a collective classroom environment, which means that even Quranic recitation and memorization occurs in a group setting, not in an isolated fashion (where students must read on their own for most of the class). The class progresses as a group, and all students are given a fair chance to move at an appropriate pace, with ample class time given to help memorize and learn the lessons. Participation in class discussions is encouraged to build confidence in students, and time is allotted for asking questions.

Students are nurtured in applying what they learn to their daily lives, and special attention is given to building strong Islamic values and character.

HIFZ PROGRAM

Outline:

Students who have completed basic levels of Quran recitation and memorization may enrol in the hifz program, through which they may complete memorization of the Quran. Students currently enrolled in Al Siraat Full-Time or Part-time Hifz Program need to attend this class, as it will be crucial in the revision and progression of their hifz. Other students may also enrol in this program if they are able to pass the assessment of Quran recitation and memorization.
